Over the past several years, we have gotten a lot of feedback regarding the Everyday Math Program. The feedback often centers around difficulties at home with homework, due to the nature of the program and the departure from the “traditional” methods many of us have previously learned in solving various math problems. In an effort to help support students and assist parents, we have found a math link that has some video tutorials for the following topics:
To access the video tutorials, click on the following link: (this will take to a school site in Indiana and off the MSAD52 site) http://mb.msdpt.k12.in.us/Math/Algorithms.html Once you are on the tutorial page, there are the names of the topics down the left side of the page, with samples in the middle, and the links to the tutorial videos on the right. When you click on the link to right that says watch demo, a Windows Media Player window will open and you will be able to see a teacher walk through each type of problem you select. Additionally, if your child is in grades three through five, they should be bringing home a hard cover math book called a Student Reference Book (SRB) which shows how to do almost all of the problems. Whenever a student has homework, they should bring that book home. We do have a limited number of extra hard cover books we can “loan” out if need be, or you can often find them on Amazon or other sites if you are looking to buy a used copy that is in fair shape or sometimes even new! We hope you find the links helpful for the math demonstrations and please contact us if you need additional support. Our goal is to always work in partnerships with parents and families! |
