Mrs. Lynelle Morin Towers, elementary teacher at the Turner Primary School in MSAD #52: Greene, Leeds, and Turner, during a surprise assembly of follow teachers, students, and parents, was presented the Patience W. Norman Prize for Teacher Excellence by Superintendent Henry J. Aliberti, Jr.  and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Mrs. Becky Foley.   On
Friday, December 19, 2014 During a 10:00 AM assembly, over 200 students, teachers, and parents crowded the school’s gymnasium to celebrate the award presentation to the twenty-one year teaching veteran.

Patience W. Norman was a history teacher with a fine, inquisitive mind who believed her students were capable of academic excellence.  Ms. Norman required her students to work hard and challenged them to surpass her and their own expectations.  The Norman Prize for Teacher Excellence has been established at the Maine Community Foundation to recognize teachers in MSAD #52 who emulate her educational philosophy.

The Patience W. Norman Prize for Teacher Excellence is awarded to a deserving teacher in MSAD #52 annually.  Candidates for the prize must be nominated and have a demonstrated commitment to MSAD #52 as evidenced by a minimum five-year tenure.  Teachers should also demonstrate one or more of the following qualities: unusual impact and effectiveness in the classroom; commitment to students, including responsibility and concern for academic progress; creativity and innovation in teaching; and leadership that provides a positive model for students.  The award recipient receives a $5,000.00 prize.

Mrs. Theresa Gillis, Principal of the Turner Primary School, and Mrs. Lynelle Morin Towers were overcome by the acknowledgement of her teaching skills and professional qualities.
