What is Title One
Title
One is the largest federally funded supplemental education program. It
offers additional lessons to students who are identified as needing
support in meeting state standards in reading. Title One services are
for first and second graders. Selection of students is based on
classroom teacher recommendation and assessments. Parental consent is
necessary for student participation.
Instruction
is given in the Read to Succeed program or in small literacy groups.
Read to Succeed is one-on-one instruction for qualifying first graders.
Literacy groups are for both first and second graders. Group numbers
should not exceed four students. Lessons are 30 minutes and occur three
to five times a week. The goal of Title One is for students to reach
grade level and become independent.
Title One does not replace the classroom reading instruction.
